Dr. Valérie Vion

WUWM Secretary-General, France

Dr. Valérie Vion is a veterinarian by education. After several years of veterinary practice, she worked as a food safety consultant before joining the French Ministry of Agriculture. She initially served as a policy officer for food safety alerts and later for the safety of the dairy sector at the Directorate General for Food. She then joined the Economic Directorate of the Ministry of Agriculture, focusing on the development of organic farming and food policy.

Starting in 2012, she headed the unit responsible for globalization and food security within the Ministry of Agriculture’s International Affairs Directorate. She was notably in charge of relations with international organizations such as the FAO, the G7, and the G20. From 2016 to 2021, she served as Regional Counsellor for Agricultural Affairs for the Middle East at the French Embassy in Lebanon (Beirut).

In February 2022, Dr. Vion was appointed Agricultural Advisor to the President of the Rungis International Market, and she became Secretary-General of the World Union of Wholesale Markets (WUWM) in June 2023. Under her supervision, WUWM organized three global conferences in Mexico (October 2023), Thailand (May 2024), and Italy (October 2024). WUWM renewed its Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the FAO and published a report in cooperation with the Milan Urban Food Policy Pact. Additionally, WUWM has established a working group among its members, where WUWM members have organized a consortium to respond to calls for proposals and tenders.
