Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde

Governor of Oyo State

Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde (1967) was elected Governor of Oyo State in 2019, and re-elected for a second term in 2023. Makinde graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Lagos.

Thereafter, Makinde worked in the private sector in Oil and Gas until he set up Makon Engineering and Technical Services, now Makon Group, a successful international business specialising in oil and gas, power generation and distribution. He is a subject matter expert on fluid and gas metering.

Makinde is a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers and a member of other national and international professional bodies, notably: the Council for Regulations of Engineering in Nigeria; the International Society of Automation; and the Institute of Measurement and Control.

His education and training prepared him to succeed in business; it also prepared him for the vagaries of politics.

Since assuming office as governor, his administration’s policies and projects have been guided by two Oyo State Roadmaps: for Accelerated Development (2019-2023) and for Sustainable Development (2023-2027).

The focus areas for his government are: Education, Healthcare, Security and using Agribusiness, Infrastructure, Tourism and Solid Minerals development to drive the Economy. In recognition of Makinde’s noteworthy contributions to engineering and policy making in governance, he was awarded an honorary doctorate by the Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo in 2022.

Makinde remains committed to using his office as Governor to bring about development that will outlast his tenure and be a benchmark for good governance in Oyo State and Nigeria.
